Unpicking Greater Depth in Writing at KS2
Key Stage: Primary
Tutor(s): Gill McCleave
Who is it for?
Y6 teachers, English subject leaders
What are the benefits?
Achieving 'greater depth' in writing at the end of KS2 isn't about flair. It isn't about having good handwriting, accurate spelling, or perfect punctuation either - although these are vital. In essence, greater depth does not require any additional knowledge, but it does require children to use knowledge flexibly and precisely for purposes and audiences.
This course has been developed in response to requests from Y6 teachers.
It aims to:
● Provide an opportunity to look at the assessment criteria for 'greater depth' in more detail
● Share and discuss examples of writing in relation to the assessment criteria - and classroom practice
● Support teachers to think about the structure of their writing curriculum, particularly in relation to more able writers
● Provide practical ideas and approaches to secure evidence for 'greater depth' writers
